The UK Border Agency and the Point Based System
Last year on the 28th of November the Home Office brought the work permit system to an abrupt end and replaced it with the Point Based System. We have had a large number of calls from Trainers, Stud Owners, Work Riders and Secretaries all very unsure of this labyrinth of legislation and how they can implement it in their organisations. This is hardly surprising as it’s the biggest change in the immigration system in the last 45 years.



Have any staff arrived in Newmarket under the Point Based System?
I had a call from a very concerned and stressed out Manager from an Equine Hospital who had applied for staff but they were refused at the Entry Clearance stage. When I went to meet him he had red eyes and had not slept too well! Their business depended on those staff and there was a great deal of pressure on him. We reassured him, we agreed a fee and took on the two cases, allowing him to concentrate on running the business. He was absolutely delighted when three weeks later we managed to get the cases approved. Two happy employees are now working at the hospital. As far as we are aware most Trainers are facing huge difficulties implementing the new PBS for new and existing employees. We have been informed that we are the only successful company to have had Tier 2 cases approved in the racing Industry.

Why do you stress when you have Kings UK on your doorstep?
We have agreed a special deal with Mark Tompkins, Chairman of the Newmarket Trainers’ Federation, to register all the Newmarket Trainers with the UK Border Agency for the Sponsor’s Licence totally free of charge. Our normal fee is £150. We will come to your office and do the online registration with you or if you prefer you can come to our offices (located between Michael Jarvis and Chris Walls’ yards).

What happens after the Sponsor’s Licence is issued to us?
You will be issued a ‘user name’ and ‘password’ with these you can issue Certificates of Sponsorship for your future and existing employees. Since we are authorised by the Home Office to carry out immigration work we can help you with this process. It can go wrong and you could lose the £170 fee, there could be issues with the application for Entry Clearance or the Leave to Remain. The easiest and pain-free option is to let us do it all for you. We will manage the whole process, from issuing the Certificate to managing the Entry Clearance or Leave to Remain processes.
